How can design items capture postmodernism’s potent—and often humorous and irreverent—critique of modernism? We’ll examine design objects featured in From the Collection: 1960–1969 within the artistic and cultural context of that turbulent decade, when traditional design forms (like “poster” or “chair”) collided with counterculture-tinged, Pop art–infused, “bad”-taste ideas. This session will also include an interactive component, in which visitors analyze small design objects in relation to the works on view.
