How can design items capture postmodernism’s potent—and often humorous and irreverent—critique of modernism? We’ll examine design objects featured in From the Collection: 1960–1969 within the artistic and cultural context of that turbulent decade, when traditional design forms (like “poster” or “chair”) collided with counterculture-tinged, Pop art–infused, “bad”-taste ideas. This session will also include an interactive component, in which visitors analyze small design objects in relation to the works on view.

Join us for lively conversations and engaging activities, facilitated by Museum educators, that offer insightful and unusual ways to engage with MoMA’s collection and special exhibitions. Gallery Sessions are free for members and Museum admission ticket holders. No registration is required. Groups meet in the Marron Atrium, Floor 2.

FM headsets for sound amplification are available for all talks.
