Laura Hunt, a talented illustrator, screws up the courage to ask newspaper columnist Waldo Liedecker to say something positive about the ad she designed for his paper. But before he can oblige, Laura is found dead in her apartment. Detective Mark McPherson is put on the case, and during the course of his investigation he falls in love with the dead woman.
