Donya Feuer was known in Sweden for her innovative approach to the staging of period opera, an aspect of her work showcased in this collaboration with Ingmar Bergman, one of the most enchanting film operas in cinema history. As in their later theater work, choreography comprises not only the dance sequences themselves but also the subtle inflections that movement and gesture give to action within Bergman’s mise en scène.
