Screenplay by Samson Raphelson, Robert E. Sherwood. With Tallulah Bankhead, Tommy Morton, Mary Murphy, Agnes Moorehead. This seldom-screened curiosity was produced by Lester Cowan as a tribute to "The Theatah," though Garnett seems to be doing his best to subvert the lofty tone with broad streaks of absurdism—most entertainingly in a subplot that finds Tallulah Bankhead playing an all-American housewife. Packed with cameos by Broadway stars, Main Street to Broadway includes an unbilled Maureen Stapleton in her first film appearance and Lionel Barrymore (appearing with his sister, Ethel) in his last.
