Kismet. 1955. USA. Directed by Vincente Minnelli. 113 min.
Screenplay by Charles Lederer, Luther Davis. With Howard Keel, Ann Blyth, Dolores Gray, Vic Damone. Cole scored one of his greatest triumphs in choreographing the Tony-winning 1954 Broadway production, but he had to play second fiddle to director Vincente Minelli when MGM filmed the property in 1955. Nevertheless, the film contains two outstanding examples, executed by splendid dancers, of Cole’s innovative Hindu-jazz vernacular in "Not Since Nineveh" and "Rahadlakam.” One suspects that another Jack (Smith) might have been paying particular attention. Barrie Chase dances in the chorus.
