Screenplay by John Jacoby, Sarett Tobias, Decla Dunning, based on a story by Barry Trivers. With Alfred Drake, Janet Blair, Marc Platt, Sid Caesar, Jeff Donnell. This winsome Columbia Pictures wartime comedy, a sort of Coast Guard equivalent of This Is the Army, miraculously incorporates dance and real-world tragedy. America’s unexpected ally, the Soviet Union, is celebrated in Cole’s choreography with Russian dance motifs for mega-talented Marc Platt. And for Sid Caesar, making his movie debut, Cole creates a wild comedy dance on the theme “I Love Eggs.” Platt and Anita Alvarez return for the film’s most ambitious piece, the carnival-themed “Love Is a Merry-Go-Round.”
