The Thrill of Brazil. 1946. USA. Directed by S. Sylvan Simon. 91 min.

Screenplay by Allen Rivkin, Harry Clork, Devery Freeman. Dances by Jack Cole, Eugene Loring, Nick Castle. With Evelyn Keyes, Keenan Wynn, Ann Miller. Keenan Wynn and Evelyn Keyes are the nominal leads in Columbia’s blatant plagiarism of its own His Girl Friday, with Broadway substituting for the newspaper business. But the film belongs to the underrated Ann Miller, whose non-tapping dance sensuality is illuminated by Cole in “Man Is Brother to a Mule.” Cole’s conga-line finale seems a direct challenge to Busby Berkeley’s Gang’s All Here opening, filmed in gorgeous, deep-focus black and white.
