Meet Me After the Show. 1951. USA. Directed by Richard Sale. 86 min.
Screenplay by Mary Loos, Richard Sale. Music by Jule Styne, Leo Robin. With Betty Grable, Macdonald Carey, Rory Calhoun, Eddie Albert, Gwen Verdon. This stealth remake of Twentieth Century features Macdonald Carey as an egomaniacal Broadway genius and Betty Grable as the star he discovered in a Miami nightclub. Cole mined Grable’s potential as a comic dancer, while outdoing his own homoerotic “Ain’t There Anyone Here for Love” with the beefcake special "No Talent Joe." Cole and Verdon shadow-dance behind Grable (fetching in a skin-tight Travilla gown) in her siren song, "Bettin' on a Man," which melded well with the Fox blonde's real-life penchant for the race track.
