Screenplay by John C. Higgins, based on a story by Virginia Kellogg. With Dennis O’Keefe, Alfred Ryder, Mary Meade, Wallace Ford. Jacques Bonneaud’s poster for the French release of T-Men, Mann’s first picture for B-movie outfit Eagle-Lion, skillfully conjures the feel of this influential noir about treasury agents who go undercover to bust a counterfeiting ring. The poster’s simple yet dramatic tonal contrasts and stark silhouettes of murdered mobsters mirror John Alton’s dark, stylized cinematography and the narrative economy of Mann’s violent setpieces.
