With Ingrid Bergman, Liv Ullman, Lena Nyman, Halvar Björk. After seven years of separation, an internationally famous concert pianist (Ingrid Bergman) returns home to visit her long-suffering daughter (Liv Ullman), who has a bagful of bones to pick with her neglectful, self-centered mother. Simmering resentment explodes into a night of mutual recrimination. A difficult collaboration for both director and star, Autumn Sonata blends painful material lifted from the lives of both Bergmans with plotting from a Hollywood melodrama. Courtesy Janus Films.
