Cast against her image of farm-fresh innocence, Bergman plays the debauched daughter of a recently convicted Nazi fifth columnist, who is pressured by an American intelligence agent (Cary Grant) to infiltrate a Nazi cell in South America by seducing its leader, a gentlemanly, mother-dominated Claude Rains. Deftly transferring audience identification among the three main characters, Hitchcock upends any easy moral judgments, while casting a powerful spell of perverse sexuality. Courtesy ABC/Disney.
