49th Parallel (The Invaders). 1941. Great Britain. Directed by Michael Powell. 123 min.

Screenplay by Emeric Pressburger, Rodney Ackland. With Laurence Olivier, Leslie Howard, Raymond Massey, Anton Walbrook. Released before the attack on Pearl Harbor, this wartime adventure aimed to rouse complacent North American moviegoers to join the fight. A party of Nazi sailors cut a deadly swath across Canada, spurring a trio of newly minted patriots to action. Anselmo Ballaster’s Italian poster for the film, emphasizing its oversize heroism and moonlight spectacle on land and sea, was the finest produced for the feature.
