This program is a mere sampling of the vast and inviting body of work created by Jeff Scher, a self-described "painter who makes experimental films and an experimental filmmaker who paints.” Scher’s body of work encompasses over 100 short films (most of them under the three-minute mark) whose animated forms include the hand-drawn, mixed-media, repurposed pieces of 16mm and 35mm film, splatter paintings and more. Scher’s style incorporates the techniques of still life painting, collage, and (perhaps most famously) rotoscope, often made with gauche, watercolor or oil paint. Scher is a longtime educator who has won an Emmy, held a running column for the New York Times, and whose work has shown in galleries and museums worldwide; more regionally, he is the creator of the beloved welcome bumper shown at IFC Center, on West 4th Street.
