Inspired by the exhibition The Surrealist Book: Tomorrow Lives in Mirrors, this month’s workshop invites you to see the everyday in unexpected ways. Create books together as you follow playful prompts into strange new territory and transform familiar objects into something surprising. For children ages five to 12 and their adult companions.
Every half hour, a Teaching Artist will guide participants through making a one-page book or a snake book. Projects will be available for visitors who drop in after a lesson has begun.
This series is designed in collaboration with the Center for Book Arts. Founded in 1974, Center for Book Arts is the oldest nonprofit dedicated to uplifting and furthering the book arts through education, preservation, exhibition, art-making, and community building. The workshops will be facilitated by María Verónica San Martín, a multidisciplinary artist whose practice intersects artist books, printmaking, performance, installation, archives, and critical pedagogy to explore memory, resistance, and social justice in Chile and the Americas.
