Hope (호프). 2026. South Korea. Written and directed by Na Hong-jin. With Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, Michael Fassbender. DCP courtesy NEON. In English, Korean; English subtitles. 156 min.
Korean director Na Hong-jin’s latest thrill-packed feature is among the most entertaining films in recent years. In a small community near the Korean Demilitarized Zone, a diminished police force bravely faces the sudden arrival of a mysterious, horrifying creature that destroys everything—and everyone—in its path. With touches of John Carpenter’s apocalyptic horror and Howard Hawks’s humorous solidarity, Hong-jin’s Hope speaks to today’s personal and political anxieties in the most gripping and unexpected ways.
