Co-directed with his producer and creative collaborator Shih-Ching Tsou, Sean Baker’s Take Out is often seen as an early blueprint for his renowned directing style. A spontaneous, minimalist vérité piece that looks at the life of an undocumented Chinese immigrant who works as a deliveryman in post-9/11 New York City, Take Out serves as both a documentary piece on the struggles of essential workers’ overlooked lives and an everyday thriller about a displaced young man chased by unexpected setbacks in a ruthless city that reveals precious glimpses of humanity nonetheless.
