In a cramped office at the Avicenne Hospital on the outskirts of Paris, Alice Diop discreetly sets up her camera to film medical consultations between a general practitioner, a psychiatrist, and refugees who seek medical help. As they navigate language barriers, the refugees’ physical and psychological pain uncovers brutal tales of precarity, survival, and alienation, their trauma and vulnerability supported by an empathetic gaze that reveals both the shortcomings of social services and the humanity of its workers.

This film accompanies Immigrant Nation: People in Transit.
