Behind the Green Door. 1972. USA. Directed by Artie Mitchell, Jim Mitchell. With Marilyn Chambers. 35mm. Courtesy of Vinegar Syndrome and Distribpix. 72 min.
In Behind the Green Door, a beautiful actress is abducted and made to perform various live sex acts to a masked audience. Notable for being the first film to depict sex between an interracial couple, it is widely considered a classic of the genre, one of the first films of the Golden Age of Porn (1969–84). The film’s star, Marilyn Chambers, was the face of P&G’s Ivory Snow soap at the time; the release of the film scandalized the advertising industry and, ironically, generated intrigue about the film.
Strange Love. 1996. USA. Directed by Scot-Free. 16mm. 5 min.
This is paired with Strange Love, a “sick little film” starring Nick Zedd (whose work also appears later in this series) as one half of a jaded Lower East Side couple who have become bored of straight sex. In a bid to spice things up, they decide to imitate some rough sex scenes as seen on TV.
