Have you ever left a museum feeling inspired and delighted? Has an artwork ever made you laugh, cry, or think differently about the world? For the contributors to Drawn to MoMA, a series that invites cartoonists and illustrators to craft stories about their experiences inside and outside the museum, art has done all this and more.
A selection of these stories are now gathered in the anthology Drawn to MoMA: Comics Inspired by Modern Art, featuring 25 hilarious, moving, and thought-provoking comics by such acclaimed graphic artists as Roz Chast, Liana Finck, Walter Scott, Mari Kanstad Johnsen, Karl Stevens, Tommi Parrish, and Chris Ware. Each in their own style, they recount visits to MoMA, explore favorite artworks and artists, and meditate on love, friendship, and the struggles and rewards of life as a creator.
To celebrate the publication of Drawn to MoMA, join us for a book launch featuring a conversation between artists Liana Finck and Karl Stevens, moderated by the book’s editors, Alex Halberstadt and Arlette Hernandez. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the conversation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Please enter through the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building at 4 W 54th Street.
This event has reached capacity. We will have a standby line at the Cullman entrance beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
