Join us for a collage workshop inspired by the MoMA exhibition Jack Whitten: The Messenger.
In this hands-on workshop and gallery tour, we will explore the exhibition and produce our own artwork in response to Jack Whitten’s practice. We will cut, arrange, and layer materials like magazine cutouts, recycled objects, and wooden blocks to create mosaic-like works inspired by Whitten’s use of acrylic paint tiles. These abstract compositions will narrate our personal memories and stories visually, creating 2D or 3D works that are reflective of our unique identities.
Open Art Space meets every Thursday, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, located at 4 West 54 Street, near Fifth Avenue.
Metrocards, snacks, and supplies will be provided.
