One of the most remarkable releases in recent years, All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt is the directorial feature debut of poet, photographer, and filmmaker Raven Jackson. It’s a lyrical, elliptical journey through the life of Mack, from childhood to her elder years in Mississippi. With minimal dialogue and robust visuals, we feel the weight of Mack’s experiences through her vivid memories: falling in love, her mother and father dancing, the difficult decisions that define her. A direct descendent of Julie Dash’s 1991 classic Daughters of the Dust, it captures the extraordinary beauty of Black Southern life. All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt was nominated for a Gotham Award for Breakthrough Director in 2023 and an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature in 2024.
