A bourgeois marriage marked by coffee, cigarettes, and infidelity is put to another test when Maria (Chiara Mastroianni) checks into a hotel room right across the street so that she can spy on her husband Richard (Benjamin Biolay). Writer-director Christophe Honoré has fun with this perfect setup for a screwball comedy, inviting the ghosts of Maria’s past—forgotten lovers, her mother and grandmother—into a night to misremember.
