Ingrid (Julianne Moore), a successful writer, and Martha (Tilda Swinton), a seasoned war journalist, reconnect after many years apart. As if no time has passed, the two rekindle their bond through conversations about art, cinema, and shared memories. When Martha asks Ingrid to help fulfill a wish, Ingrid agonizes over the ethics of its execution and the emotional torment that will follow. Pedro Almodóvar, who began his career as a countercultural provocateur with bold, transgressive works featuring commanding women and queer presence, reveals a surprising depth of serenity and compassion in this profound exploration of death, self-determination, and the ultimate gift a friend can offer. The Room Next Door was awarded the Gold Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
