Today, live footage of historic events are inescapable. But what did it feel like to choose to broadcast the first-ever live images of an active hostage situation? What about the unintended consequences for the abductees, their captors, or the authorities attempting to diffuse the situation? And, in a pre-digital, analog era of television, how would you physically get it done? We revisit these dilemmas in Tim Fehlbaum’s taught thriller, which follows a daring ABC Sports team as they let the world see the 1972 Munich Olympics hostage crisis unfold in real time. A brilliant ensemble, led by Peter Saarsgard, plunges us into an origin story of our image-saturated, conflict-filled world.
