- Introduction
- German painter studied with Beuys at the Kunstakademie, Düsseldorf. He assumed the name Blinky Palermo in 1964, a reference to an American gangster and boxing promoter. While considered a painter his work was often sculptural, or incorporated elements of installation. He produced murals that were dependent on the architectural space that surrounded them, works constructed from common store bought colored fabric stitched together to produce banded color fields, and paintings made on aluminum or steel. He was active in New York from 1973-1976, then in Düsseldorf until his death from heart failure in 1977, on Kurumba Island in the Maldives.
