Asger Jorn
- Introduction
- Asger Oluf Jorn (3 March 1914 – 1 May 1973) was a Danish painter, sculptor, ceramic artist, and author. He was a founding member of the avant-garde movement COBRA and the Situationist International. He was born in Vejrum, in the northwest corner of Jutland, Denmark, and baptized Asger Oluf Jørgensen. The largest collection of Asger Jorn's works—including his major work Stalingrad—can be seen in the Museum Jorn, Silkeborg, Denmark. Asger Jorn willed his property and the works of art located inside to the Municipality of Albissola Marina (Savona), so the Italian museum called "Casa Museo Jorn" was created for displaying his works.

- Introduction
- Danish painter, printmaker, ceramicist, writer and theorist. He visited Paris in fall 1936, and studied at Fernand Léger's Académie contemporaine. During World War II, Jorn remained in Denmark, painting and contributing to the magazine 'Helhesten.' His first solo exhibition in Paris took place in 1948 at the Galerie Breteau. He co-founded the group Cobra (1948–1951) with Karel Appel, Constant, Corneille (Guillaume Cornelis Beverloo), Christian Dotremont, and Joseph Noiret. Jorn edited monographs of the Bibliothèque Cobra before disassociating himself from the movement. He began work in ceramics in 1953. The following year he settled in Albisola, Italy, and participated in a continuation of Cobra called Mouvement International pour un Bauhaus Imaginiste. Jorn's work included painting, collage, book illustration, prints, drawings, ceramics, tapestries, murals, and sculpture. He participated in the movement Internationale Situationniste from 1957 to 1961. His first solo show in New York was in 1962 at the Lefebre Gallery. From 1966 Jorn concentrated on oil painting and travel; visiting Cuba, England, Scotland, the United States, and Asia. Jorn died on May 1, 1973, in Aarhus, Denmark.
