The Museum is on target to achieve its 2024 goal to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 20%, meeting New York City’s Climate Mobilization Act’s mandates and Local Law 97’s carbon emissions reduction requirements. The Museum is able to do this by:
- Retro-commissioning building HVAC systems to improve system operation efficiency
- Converting all back-of-house lighting to LED (front-of-house is already LED) and upgrading lighting controls
- Scheduling equipment deactivation when spaces are unoccupied
- Improving performance of air handling units and zone temperature setpoints to reduce reheat energy
- Optimizing heating and cooling pumping-differential pressure setpoints to reduce energy use
- Optimizing steam-system performance to reduce seasonal consumption
- Installing a new campus-wide building-management system to ensure equipment continually operates efficiently
- Installation of new high-efficiency filtration across the air-handling units to reduce energy usage
- Installation of a new variable-demand fan in the restaurant’s kitchen to reduce energy from kitchen exhaust operation
