We begin this week by honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his inspirational legacy. The above photograph by Leonard Freed, drawn from MoMA’s collection, was taken in 1964, on the occasion of King’s return home after receiving the Noble Peace Prize (making him, at the time, the youngest person to receive the award).
Here’s a look at this week’s programming highlights:
• Tonight through Saturday, catch a rare screening of Arch Oboler’s The Bubble (newly restored by 3-D Film Archive), a sci-fi follow up to the director’s seminal Bwana Devil, which sparked the 3-D boom of the 1950s. The Bubble was intended as a showcase for a refined system called 4-D Space-Vision, which made it possible to project a widescreen 3-D image from a single strip of film.
• On Tuesday, as part of MoMA Presents: Mati Diop’s </em>A Thousand Suns and Djbril Diop Mambéty’s Touki Bouki,</strong> emerging French filmmaker and actress Mati Diop will introduce a pair of her films, Atlantiques (2009) and A Thousand Suns (2013), which blend fiction and nonfiction and use color, sound, and movement to haunting effect.</p>

• Don’t miss The Modern Party on Thursday. This exclusive evening for members offers private access to all Museum galleries (including Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs), live entertainment, an open bar, treats and dessert, and more! Tickets ($75 per person) are only available to members; join today and enjoy this and many other benefits all year long.
• Once again, on Saturday and Sunday the entire Museum will stay open late (until 8:00 p.m.) so that more visitors will have a chance to see Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs. Timed tickets are required for non-members, and can be purchased in advance at MoMA.org/matissetix.

• Also on Saturday and Sunday, the youngest modern art lovers can participate in free gallery talks and activities, which this weekend include Get into Shape! (Tours for Fours) and Mix It Up: Color in Art (A Closer Look for Kids). Space is limited so be sure to arrive a little early.
• And Sunday Sessions at MoMA PS1 presents CHOREO_POLITICS of the TRANS_HUMAN, a lecture-performance designed to inspire discussion of contemporary choreography as a political and social practice. The performance takes place within TREES, an immersive installation on view from Friday to Sunday.
