Since today (Memorial Day) is the unofficial start of summer, we’re going to keep things brief. While a visit to MoMA probably won’t improve your tan, it can certainly be transformative, so here are a few suggested activities for this week.

• On Tuesday, May 27, as part of An Auteurist History of Film Reprise, Part 2, director Peter Emanuel Goldman comes to MoMA for a screening and discussion of his moody, melancholic debut film Echoes of Silence (1965).
• Artist Allison Smith leads a hands-on workshop related to her ongoing project Needle Work (2010) on Thursday, May 29, as part of MoMA Studio: Breathe with Me. Visit MoMA.org/studio for details.
• Join us on Thursday, May 29, and Saturday, May 31, for CONTACT! at the Biennial: Beyond Recall, part of the NY Phil Biennial. Matthias Pintscher conducts Philharmonic musicians in MoMA’s Agnes Gund Garden Lobby, in a program including the U.S. premieres of works inspired by sculptures made for outdoor public spaces in the city of Salzburg. Participants include scholars Michael Taussig and Cynthia Hahn, artists Allison Smith and Dario Robleto, Glenn Adamson from the Museum of Arts and Design, and Tim McHenry from the Rubin Museum of Art.
• Don’t miss a free Garden Party with Maira Kalman and Daniel Handler on Sunday, June 1, celebrating their new book Girls Standing on Lawns. The event, which takes place in MoMA’s Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, features live 1930s-style Parisian jazz from the Hot Club of Flatbush, plus activities for kids.
