Louise Bourgeois. Stamp of Memories II. 1994

Louise Bourgeois Stamp of Memories II 1994

  • Not on view

The final evolution of Bourgeois's Sainte Sébastienne took several forms. In both iterations of Stamp of Memory, the figure protects three eggs, representing Bourgeois's sons, hidden in her hair. Bourgeois brands the bodies with monogramed sealing stampsone displaying the initials of her father, Louis Bourgeois, and the other with her own geometric counterpart. Finally, she enlarges the figure to a grand scale and cuts off its head.

How we identified these works
