Bourgeois invented her "Femme Maison" imagery in the 1940s, when she was raising three small sons. In this version, she revisits one of her early painted compositions in a print. This same image was reprised as a feminist symbol in the 1970s.

In 2018–19, MoMA collaborated with Google Arts & Culture Lab on a project using machine learning to identify artworks in installation photos. That project has concluded, and works are now being identified by MoMA staff.
