Founded in New York in 1947 by the critic, artist, publisher, and collector Robert Altmann, Brunidor art publishing house produced portfolios of prints that were accompanied by contemporary art criticism and poetry. Fleeing anti-Semitism during World War II, Altmann moved to several different countries, including the United States and Cuba. He maintained close relationships with many of the artists whose works he published, a number of whom also faced displacement from the war. This portfolio was the first of seven from Brunidor and contains seven prints. It also includes a text by the art critic and poet Nicolas Calas.
