Christo "The Museum of Modern Art Packed Project" 1968

The Museum of Modern Art has inspired a number of artists to propose site–specific works. In 1968 Christo and his partner Jean–Claude conceived of a project to transform the Museum by "wrapping" the building with tarpaulin and rope. Ten years later Matta–Clark was invited to work with the facade of a portion of the building scheduled to be demolished during an expansion. Several preparatory drawings document the designs he considered cutting into the glass and steel structure. Although neither of these proposals was ultimately realized, the drawings speak to the artists' daring activations of architecture and the urban environment.
