Jackson Pollock Untitled c. 1950

  • Not on view

To make this drawing, Pollock likely used a mouth atomizer (a straw-like instrument into which ink or paint is loaded and then blown through), creating a dramatic splattering effect, almost like bursting fireworks. In a 1950 interview, Pollock explained, "New needs need new techniques. And the modern artists have found new ways and new means of making their statements. . . . Each age finds its own technique."
