In this short film, filmmaker Shirley Clarke captures the daily rhythm of pedestrians as they move through outdoor parks in the city of Paris. Clarke’s use of wide aerial shots frames the landscape of these spaces similarly to a stage, allowing viewers to observe the dynamic movement of crowds within an urban setting. A dancer herself, she records the cadence of bodies in motion—children playing on swings, leaping through the grass, bouncing on balls, and spinning through the streets. As Clarke once remarked, it was the “choreography of the camera as well as the dancers” that she saw as an essential part of her art practice.
