Beatriz González Zócalo de la comedia 1983

  • Not on view

“The idea of taking images from everyday reality runs through my whole career,” says González. These works contain two different images taken from current events of the time, which have been printed and repeated to resemble a frieze. Zócalo de la comedia (Basebord of Comedy) shows Colombian President Julio César Turbay Ayala bestowing a state honor during the final days of his presidency, while Zócalo de la tragedia (Basebord of Tragedy) is based on the news image of a man who killed his friend's girlfriend then committed suicide. González made these works in collaboration with a popular print workshop, and originally pasted them across the city of Bogotá.
