In the last years of her life—in her mid-to-late nineties—Bourgeois began a series of gouaches that explore pregnancy, birthing, and breast feeding, and also took up these subjects in prints. Motherhood had always been among the underpinnings of her identity, but now she referred to her own birth and dependency on her mother, not to the birth of her sons.

In 2018–19, MoMA collaborated with Google Arts & Culture Lab on a project using machine learning to identify artworks in installation photos. That project has concluded, and works are now being identified by MoMA staff.
