Luis Camnitzer Infinite Rays of the Sun 1975–78

  • Not on view

Here, a word at center and a dense array of numbers in radiating lines, made finite by the paper's edge, demonstrate diagrammatic and linguistic representations of the sun. Graphic simplicity, play with language, poetic openness, and social and political allusions (here to "shining a light" on something or to qualities such as brightness and transparency) are common in Camnitzer's work. Language, as an arbitrary system of symbols, is a main element in the artist’s projects, and he often examines its relationship to images and objects.
