Untitled from Eve

2006

Etching and aquatint with collage additions from a portfolio of five etchings (two with aquatint and collage additions, one with collage additions) and three aquatints (two with collage additions)

Not on view

Across centuries of art, few female figures have been depicted as often, or in such vastly different ways, as the biblical figure of Eve. Updating Eve for a networked present, this series of eight prints suggests the surreal results of an internet search for her name. By using a diversity of styles and digitally printed elements, Mutu reimagines female archetypes that range from ancient goddess figures to realistic female anatomy and otherworldly science fictional cyborgs.
