Model immigrated to the United States from Vienna in 1938. In New York, she was active in the Photo League, an organization that served as both a community of photographers and a forum dedicated to advancing social change through creative photography in a progressive documentary tradition. In Window Reflections, Model brought together multiple strands prevalent in European and American photography, from experimental graphic and spatial play to the scrutiny of urban life. The facial features of her subject have vanished into his shadowed form, while the cacophonous signs of the city are reflected against his silhouette, provoking the viewer to contemplate what he might be thinking.
