“As a photographer, I feel like [Sander] really was able to capture the personality of the person. And I really think that’s why he still feels contemporary and still speaks to us. [...] When I take pictures and I look into my viewfinder, I always have to focus. You look, and you focus on the eyes. You always feel empathy for a person. Always. And I don’t know why that is—because maybe, you can come so close. And I think Sander must have had that too with his work.”
