Celebrating Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg, honoree of the 2026 MoMA Film Benefit, is one of the most successful and influential filmmakers in history. Over his 50-plus-year career he has directed more than 35 feature films, and he holds the record for the most Best Picture Oscar nominations, at 14 total. From massive blockbusters to contemplative character pieces, sci-fi to historical epics to musicals, Spielberg is truly unique in his ability to combine unerring craft and artistry with popular appeal and box office success. He is also one of the few artists to achieve EGOT status, having won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards across film, television, music, and theater. In 2015, President Barack Obama presented him the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
