"Some of our fabrics bear no relation to either traditional techniques or cutting-edge technologies. Most of these fabrics were the inspired genius of someone on our staff. The results, for example the Rust or Scrapyard series, are quite contemporary in feeling. In this series, fabrics are essentially stamped with metallic rust. The design idea was a pure random flash--rust has been part of our lives forever, yet the effect is fresh and vivid. Nails and other ferrous wires and metal scraps are allowed to "weather" onto a rayon base fabric. The effect is completely unlike vegetable or chemical dyeing. The shapes have a strong "punched-in" physical presence..." by Reiko Sudo
