MOOCS and Museums: Not Such Strange Bedfellows After All

artinquiry-squareThis past spring MoMA decided to team up with the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) provider Coursera to offer professional development for K–12 teachers all over the world. As the assistant director of School and Teacher Programs at MoMA, the MOOC ball landed in my court.

On July 13, 40 teachers from around the globe came to MoMA to begin a weeklong Summer Teacher Institute. This year marked the 10th year of Connecting Collections Summer Teacher Institute

MoMA Returns to Its Roots

My first painting in 20 years

Even though fall is upon us and the new school year is fully underway, I find myself reflecting on summer, specifically a new teacher program we launched. One of the highlights of my summer, MoMA at the Beach, brought together 15 art-studio teachers from the Tri-State area and three instructors to The Art Barge in Amagansett for a workshop focusing on painting, techniques, materials, and process.
