Blok was published in Warsaw by the Blok Group of Constructivists, Cubists, and Suprematists. At the beginning of the publishing project, the group’s participants included Henryk Berlewi, Katarzyna Kobro, Henryk Stažewski, Władysław Strzeminski, Mieczysław Szczuka, and Teresa Zarnower, among others. The group’s members were leading figures of new abstraction in art and design in Poland, with influences of Suprematism, Constructivism, Futurism, and Neo-plasticism. Berlewi, Stažewski, Strzeminski, Zarnower, and Szczuka were important figures in the transformation of Polish graphic design, adapting these new art forms into the construction of the printed page. The graphic layouts of Blok experimented with bold juxtapositions of image and text, blending new typographic forms with reproductions of artworks from the Blok circle.
