Jorge Luis Borges, the prominent Argentine poet and writer, served on the editorial board of Sur magazine, which hosted Stern’s first exhibition in Argentina, providing her with an introduction to the author. At the time of this photograph, Borges was known primarily among his peers in Buenos Aires; it would be another ten years before he received widespread international acclaim.
