Rather than an installation with an icon visitors can observe, Centreefugal Park is a summer park filled with plants, shade, and breezes. In this park, “Centreefuges” rotate, bloom, and fall randomly, creating ever-changing shadows on the ground. The rotation of the large leaves results in a gentle, pleasant breeze: a respite from the harsh heat waves of Seoul. The key challenge was creating a large covered area with a light structure that does not require a heavy foundation. Visitors can manually rotate and rearrange the benches and platforms around the Centreefuges to create their own small park—a game of catch with the shadows. With a small rock mountain, a sandbox, and ponds, Centreefugal Park is a playful summer park for everyone.
