Pelican (1963), the first performance that Rauschenberg choreographed, was presented at the First New York Theater Rally, held at the old CBS studio on Broadway and 81st Street in 1965. For the performance, he and dancer Alex Hay performed on roller skates with billowing parachutes strapped to their backs; classically trained dancer Carolyn Brown performed en pointe.
