Maira Kalman is an author/illustrator/designer. Her work is based on her travels, both in her daily walks and in places farther afield. She has written/illustrated 20 books for adults and children, including The Principles of Uncertainty (2007) and The Pursuit of Happiness (2010). She is a frequent contributor to many publications, including The New Yorker magazine, and is well known for her collaboration with Rick Meyerowitz on the magazine's "New Yorkistan" cover in 2001. Recent projects include illustrating Strunk and White's classic The Elements of Style and the reissue of Michael Pollan’s Food Rules. She teaches a graduate design seminar at the School of Visual Arts and is represented by the Julie Saul Gallery in New York City.
