MoMA

Founded in Vienna in 1990, in the wake of geopolitical shifts in Central and Eastern Europe, Museum in Progress commissions artist projects that are “media-specific, context-dependent, and temporary,” the organization’s mission statement explains. Made possible through formal partnerships with governments, private corporations, and media organizations, the projects appear primarily in advertising spaces in newspapers and magazines and on billboards and websites. By selecting media with a broad reach and established distribution channels, Museum in Progress creates opportunities for works of art to circulate beyond the walls of cultural institutions, opening up to new social and geographic communities.

Over the last two decades, Museum in Progress has collaborated with more than four hundred international artists and numerous curators on nearly sixty exhibition projects. Selections are on view here, demonstrating the organization’s role as a generative hub for an impressive range of contemporary printed interventions.
